March 2025
Keep goin.
Howdy!
In this issue: a few one-liners to take with you during the workday, shoutout to the start of baseball season and celebrate things going on with friends on this list!
Ways to Improve the Workday
This month EY gathered colleagues, partners and clients from across the US and I attended one event, a roundtable with 8 leading women partners sharing their best advice to thrive at work.
Four favorites takeaways:
Be intentional with mentors
Takeaway: when meeting up, have a clear ask ready for the conversation
Friends with co-workers = more fun
Takeaway: actually get to know the people you work with
There is no work life balance, it’s a pendulum
Takeaway: you can have everything just not at once
Making everyone feel part of a club is what inclusion feels like
Takeaway: who on the team isn’t in the club yet?
This week's challenge: Have one non-work conversation with a mentor-esque person in your life. Talk hobbies, or weekend plans—it builds genuine connections instead of just focusing on project deadlines.
What’s Taking Up My Attention
Baseball returned this month with a kickoff in Tokyo between two of the biggest brands and payrolls, Cubs vs. Dodgers. The game was a “home run” for the MLB (sry I had to). MJ Dodge and I write Dugout Seat, a weekly newsletter connecting Braves baseball fans to the game.
Subscribe to stay in the know in the game plus and if you want to come with to a Braves game this year let me know!
📝 Stay out of the Cheap Seats
Just start, then keep goin.
The YouTube algorithm started putting all kinds of NPR Tiny Desk throwbacks on my radar and I am not mad about it. Fun seeing decade old videos like this of now superstar bands like Alt-J. Enjoy some easy listening to start the week.
Hyping Up Friends
Dane O’Neill started a job at EY in Atlanta (I had nothing to do with this)
Starr Douglas celebrated three years running FrontHouz, a platform that connects hospitality workers with highly qualified gigs. They’re hiring!
Bradley Smith took me out fly fishing for the first time and he caught a SOLID spotted brown trout
Thanks to all the folks who came by Bellyard in Midtown!
Grandma’s Corner
She’s pro-surprise! As a travel agent, Grandma H knows there are ways to pleasantly surprise and delight any client. And if you ever need travel tips especially Italy… she’s a wealth of knowledge.
The End
This newsletter continues to be my favorite monthly ritual—know someone who might enjoy these updates? Forward it their way or send me their email.
This week, join the creators rather than the critics—leave the cheap seats behind and build something worth cheering for.
p.s. I started using an email service to manage this list which gives me some nice features + you can unsubscribe if you’re not interested in updates
