AI and Human peace treaty

Howdy!

In this issue: how I’m adapting to an AI world, call me and reminder everyone is a customer

Adjusting to AI First

The way AI and specifically ChatGPT use has accelerated in the last 6 months has been a shocker to me. We have quickly moved into a world where instead of “Did you Google it?” people now say “Have you checked ChatGPT?”

If someone asks a question, especially in a tech related field, it’s a safe bet they already asked an AI meaning your response has to be more detailed and offer a truly unique insight.

It’s not just tech, now every thing you read, watch or hear (AI music still sucks thank god) you have to ascertain whether a human or computer created it to validate.

I’m sure we will get to a place where we’ll become okay that is just standard, but for now I’m creating some rules around it.

  • If I make something with the heavy use of AI, add a disclaimer

  • If I’m sent something clearly 100% AI I just won’t read, watch or support it

  • For searching information, use multiple models (main for me are Grok and ChatGPT) to compare results

I’ve been denying how much people use it, but after several interactions this month it’s become even more clear how AI first folks have become.

What Else is Taking Up My Attention

📞 Just Call Me

Someone said once time an open calendar is true serenity or something like that. Loved this take from Jason Fried to just call if you need something. We don’t always need to brick up our calendars, just call or text and we’ll connect. 678.315.9187

🔢 Data Stinks as a VC Backed Business

Enjoyed this read from Auren Hoffman, a VC focused on solving data problems about why data business are not great for venture capitalists to invest in. He points out how few are now public companies and the struggles to find buyers.

I’m into marketing stuff, but never really fan-boyed over advertisements. This one’s pretty cool though as TRMNL launched TRMNL X this week with the launch centered around this Severance-inspired ad. Pre-order one and be one of the first to get by end of year.

Being in two places at once

For the last year and half we’ve been going back and forth between Charlotte and Atlanta for work. What ended up happening is the Charlotte people think we live in Charlotte and the Atlanta people think we live Atlanta.

But earlier this month, we made the move full time to Charlotte! No going away party or big welcome in because we still want to get invited to things in Georgia while not surprising the people here in North Carolina.

Grandma’s Corner

Grandma has fully supported herself as a travel agent for the last few decades, so she must know a thing or two about sales.
