Failing Up

Howdy!
In this issue: failing fast, how to define your legacy and new things happening with friends
Failing is Cool
I have been intentionally starting, trying and failing at a lot of things recently. The feeling of failing in general is a muscle you have to continue to train.
We are not innately made as humans to fail. Avoid danger = survive. Make friends, build social groups around you and make sure they don’t kick you out.
Saw this (probably fake) billboard for the 100x time and really does jazz me on how failing it better than not trying at all.

Break out the norm try something new and get ready to fail fast so you can adjust quickly.
For example, I decided to stop putting energy into the Braves newsletter I was working on, Dugout Seat. It did not get the organic traction needed to sustain + I was not putting the proper effort into it anymore. Learned a ton, not a huge success.
Would love to hear something new you’re trying and blockers you have to just get it done.
What Else is Taking Up My Attention
📺 Jared Allen is the Man
When getting inducted into the football Hall of Fame, legendary defensive end Jared Allen took the time to highlight his wife and two daughters in a touching way. A reminder that no matter what your work is, it is your family that should be your greatest legacy.
💸 Easy App to Categorize Finances
I am getting back into personal finance nerdom now largely because of Lunch Money, a Mint alternative with a solo founder that is incredibly customizable. Has other uniquenesses like pick your own price, active Discord community and flexible crypto tracking. If you’re into tracking finances too, you can try it for free for 60 days.
🦢 Rewatched The Notebook
On the way to Bend, Oregon I rewatched one of my favorite movies The Notebook. Not only is it a great story about the resilience of love, but it’s fun seeing Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling at the peak of their first wave of fame. It’s available on Netflix, United flights and most other streaming platforms.
New Things Happening with Friends
Kieth’s social media agency SociallyIn has a new website
Wil newly started his MBA at Northwestern - Kellogg
Darryl is taking on new focus at Boba Nutrition
Coumba went to a new event with NC Tech (nice to meet there!)
Patrick moved to a new place (old state)
Grandma’s Corner
Another reminder from last month, always be learning!

The End
P.S. For the new names I added this month, I’m writing an email once a month to stay in touch with friends. You can unsubscribe below if you’re not interested (we will still be friends) and read all previous monthlies here.
